"Llanidlois." 30x40 inch. April 2020. I really enjoyed painting this. It is acrylic paint with modeling paste textured onto a 1 1/2 inch cradled hardwood panel, finished with an oil wood stain and oil based finish. The subject is mid-Wales. One of the most beautiful places on earth! In the summer of 2,000 two of my sons and I had been in Africa for close to a month, flew into London, rented a car and drove to mid-Wales. We were famished from our trip and went into a grocery store where they were baking fresh pizza. We bought one and sat outside at some tables. We watched people paragliding off these hills and landing in a park in town about a block away. It was a moment forever etched in my mind. This is also not far from where my Great Great Great Grandfather Robert Griffith lived and left Wales in 1841 to come to the United States. A part of my heart resides there. Finally, this painting has over 250 sheep in it! There are about 3 sheep to every one person in Wales. No painting of Wales is complete without sheep. This is my third painting of mid-Wales, of which I hope to paint many more!
